Jerry Rees

I am a full time Coxswain on Angle Lifeboat

How old were you when you started working as a crew member?
From the age of 17

What do you wear on the lifeboat?
Full Musto’s wellies and Lifejacket

How do you keep fit?
By walking the coast paths around Angle

Do you ever get hungry when you are out on a shout?
We do get hungry so we carry corned beef as they did in the pulling boats some things have not changed

How long does it take to get the boat in the water?
About 15 mins from the time the pager goes off

What is it like on the lifeboat when the weather is really bad?
A bit like being on a roller coaster at a theme park

Is it exciting?
The excitement is when the shout is over and you’ve done a good job

What does your family think about your lifeboat work?
It’s part of everyday life being born and bred in the village

What happens if you’re asleep in bed and you are called out?
This happens more often than not, we just get on and do the job

What made you want to join the lifeboat crew?
It’s tradition, and been done for generations by my family
