When not at the Lifeboat Station I like to watch live music, motor sports & T.V. I also like walking my dog and spending time with my wife and two boys.

 

 

How old were you when you started working as a crew member?
25

How long does it take you to get the boat into the water?
5 - 10 mins

What happens if one of the crew falls in the water?
We have a man over board procedure that would be performed to rescue that crew member.

Is it exciting?
It is exciting because you don't know what the shout is for. It could be a luxury boat or some one famous!

What made you want to join the lifeboat crew?
It is a family tradition.

What does your family think about your lifeboat work?
My children think it's great. They always like to go and see the two lifeboats.

Have you ever been up in the helicopter?
No. I would like to.

What is the training like? Is there a lot of reading and writing?
The training is excellent. there is some reading and writing but it is mainly hands on.

What do you wear on the lifeboat?
On the ALB Musto waterproofs, lifejacket and helmet
On the ILB thermal suit, dry suit, lifejacket, helmet & gloves.

Do you ever get hungry when you are on a shout?
Yes, especially if it is first thing in the morning.

Do you ever manage to have a cup of tea when you are out on a shout?
You can have a can of pop on the ALB not on the ILB there are no creature comforts.
