The Tyne Class Lady Rank arrived in Angle on Monday 22nd June 1987, at a cost of £537,000. This self-righting boat being 47' x 15', driven by two 425 h.p. General Motors diesel engines, which gave her a top speed of 17 knots.
The naming ceremony took place at Angle Pier on the afternoon of August 6th 1987. She was provided as a gift from The Rank Foundation and was formally handed over to the R.N.L.I. by Mr. Robin Cowen, MBE Chairman of the Donors, to Mr. Michael Vernon, a deputy Chairman of the R.N.L.I., She was then formally christened "The Lady Rank" by the Hon. Mrs. Shelagh Cowen.
