Richard Vernon & Mary Garforth of Leeds

1957 - 1987

On the 10th July 1957 the naming ceremony for the Richard Vernon & Mary Garforth of Leeds took place at Angle Pier.

The 46'9" x 12'9" Watson class, non self-righter was driven by two 40h.p. Ferry VE4 diesel engines, with a top speed of approx 8.5 knots.

She was built in Cowes by J. Samuel White at a cost of £33,587, and was exhibited at the National Boat Show in Olympia before her arrival in Angle.

Paid for by the legacies of Mr R. Vernon of Stone and Mr I. Garforth of Leeds, she was launched a total of 151 times with 71 lives saved.

On leaving Angle she was reallocated to Wicklow Lifeboat Station from 1987-1988, and in 1989 she was sold and renamed Scubie Doo. She is now berthed in Milford Marina named Spirit of Angle.
