Richard Roch
I work full time for the RNLI
What do you wear on
the Lifeboat?
Overalls when
in the engine room. Full musto kit and lifejacket when on deck.
How do you feel when
if you get a call out in the middle of a cold winter's night?
You feel that
someone is in trouble and don't know what you are going to encounter
when you arrive.
Do you ever manage
to have a cup of tea when you are on a shout?
Not really,
much too busy with the rescue.
How long does it take
to get the lifeboat in the water?
Approx between
12 - 15 minutes from the sound of the pager.
Have you ever saved
a boy or girl from the sea? if so how old were they?
Saved several,
from the age of 4 - 16 years of age.
Do you ever get sea
sick?
Fortunately
no.
Have you ever been
up in a helicopter?
Yes, it was
very exciting, you have a better view of the scenery.
What is the training
like?
Second to none.
A lot of hard work.
Do you ever get hungry
when you are out on a shout?
All the time,
we do carry food, but not cooked dinners.
